Peanuts of Chakwal

peanuts of chakwal are famous all around the world they have a very wonderful taste

Climate change has dramatically reduced the yield of the peanut crop in the Potohar region.

In some areas, peanut production has fallen by 70% this year.

The country’s top peanut growers are located in the Potohar region, in the Chakwal and Attock areas.

Malik Mohammad Aslam (deputy director, Agriculture Extension Department Chakwal), stated that this year peanuts were grown on 88.800 acres of land in Chakwal district. The Chakwal, Talagang, and Lawa tehsils were sown. However, peanut cultivation is not possible in the Choa Saidan Shah or Kallar Kahar tehsils.

Chakwal Malik Muhammad Alslam, Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Department, stated that peanut cultivation was done on an area of 88800 acres within Chakwal district. The sowing area is comprised of tehsils in Chakwal, Talagang, and newly carved Lawa. However, the hilly area tehsils Choa Saidan Shah or Kallar Kahar are not suitable for peanut cultivation.

Talagang and Lawa were once the main peanut producers in the district. However, the yields in both Tehsils suffered this year.

“I cultivated peanuts over three-and-a-half acres. I expected a 35 maund yield. Haji Mohammad Qasim from Lawa, a farmer in Dhurnal village, said that he was shocked when he harvested his crops. He only received 2 maunds.

He said, “I couldn’t even get the seed I sowed,” and blamed the low rainfall Talagang received during this monsoon.

Similar story was told by Saleem Akhtar, a Khuian villager. On six acres of land, he cultivated peanuts. He expected to get 40 maunds of yield but got only 16. He also blamed the insufficient rainfall.

Chakwal’s climatic conditions have been very difficult for crops, particularly after the untimely rains during the crop’s flowering stage.

Dr Mohammad Tariq (director general, Barani Agriculture Research Institute, Bari) Chakwal, stated that while rain is not necessary during flowering, in Chakwal tehsil, excess rainfall damaged the crops and prevented proper fruiting.”

Aqeel Haider from Miangan, a farmer, said that he didn’t see any peanut flowers this year.

Ali Javed, a trader at the Chakwal Grain market, said that 10 to 15,000 peanut bags used to arrive daily from different villages. But this year, only 2,500 to 3000 bags have arrived.

Peanuts are reasonably priced due to their low production. The average price for 40 kg ranges between Rs4,500 and Rs5,200.

Peanut farmers in the Potohar region have also faced challenges with the repatriation and employment of Afghan nationals during harvesting.

However, Mr Aslam, from the Agriculture Extension Department, stated that farmers were also responsible for poor yields. Because they don’t use fertilisers to sow the crop, farmers don’t give peanuts the same attention as other crops.

“Most farmers don’t hoe after sowing their crops. This leaves them vulnerable to weeds.” He said that this practice also impacts yield.

Dawn was told by Dr Tariq of Bari that a new peanut seed variety has been developed at the institute and is capable of maturing in four months. He stated that the new variety of peanut seed would be more tolerant to climate change risks.

Peanuts ( Hypogaea ) are a vital food crop that is widely grown in the tropics as well as warmer regions. Peanuts are a South American food crop that is now being grown in many parts of the globe. Because it is botanically not a nut, the name “peanut”, is misleading. It is a legume, and therefore, is not a true peanut. Groundnuts are often called peanuts in English-speaking countries. This is because the edible seeds of peanut plants grow above ground and mature underground. China and India are the two largest producers of peanuts. They are also important for West Africa, as well as several other countries in the Americas, eastern and southern Africa, and Africa. Peanuts are not a staple food, but they can provide important nutrients such as protein and oil. Peanuts can be eaten whole, as a snack or in confections with peanut butter and oil.

Peanuts are more productive when they are grown in well-drained soils. Peanuts can be adapted to sandy soils, provided that there is sufficient rainfall and irrigation. It is recommended to grow one or more peanut crops in between each other crop. You will see significant yield increases if you have longer rotations or avoid soybeans as they can carry important diseases. Mid-season nut development is the best time to avoid water stress in peanuts grown under irrigation. This is not only a time when yield can be affected, but it also happens to be the most water-intensive period for the crop. It is generally not advised to water peanuts during maturity and early in the season.

Peanut production is affected by many diseases and pests. An integrated pest management program is highly recommended to manage these pests. This will help reduce costs and prevent resistance to pesticides. An integrated management program should include rotation, variety selection, intensive scouting, and intensive rotation. The results of variety trials conducted by state extension programs can help you select varieties that are high-yielding and resistant to key pests and diseases. It is important to monitor peanuts for readiness to harvest, as the timing of harvest can have an impact on both yield and quality. Peanuts are first gathered and allowed to dry for at least 10 percent moisture before being combined. Peanuts that have been freshly combined are often placed in a wagon, where they are further cured using forced warm air.

Peanut butter, peanut oil and confections are all made from peanuts grown in the United States. Peanut butter production accounts for approximately 60% of peanuts. About 15% of the crop gets crushed for oil. This produces meal and cake as byproducts.

Roasted Peanuts

The shells of roasted peanuts are kept intact and roasted. They are a popular snack at baseball games. You can also use them in nut mixtures. Some roasted peanuts can be exported.

Peanut processors

Raw peanuts are prepared by peanut processors. Peanuts can be sorted according to their size, flavor or variety. These peanuts can be used by food companies to make peanut butter, peanut candy, and peanut snacks. Food manufacturers with their own processing plants may purchase raw peanuts from their suppliers, which they then use to make peanut-based products.

Peanut Oil

Peanut oil is obtained by crushing raw peanuts. Peanut oil is a great choice for cooking as it doesn’t absorb any flavors. Many restaurants prefer peanut oil as a frying oil. Peanut oil can be used to make salad dressings and roast vegetables. Peanut oil is high-in monounsaturated fat, which is considered a healthy fat for the heart. Peanut oil is safe to eat if you are allergic to peanuts.

Peanut Flour

Peanut flour is made of crushed peanuts. It can be either partially or completely defatted. This flour is free of gluten and a great source of protein. You can use the flour to thicken soups, breads, pastries, coat meats, and fish, as well as fortifying them. You can also make powdered peanut oil from it.

Peanuts are high in oil (45 to 52 percent) when compared with other oilseed crops. Peanuts can potentially produce 120 to 150 gallons per acre of biodiesel with a yield of 3,000 lbs, a 70-grade (70 percent of the peanut’s weight in the shell), and 50 percent oil. Growers can produce as much as 3,500 to 4,500 pounds of peanuts an acre if they use good management practices. This means that there is potential for even greater biodiesel production per acre. Peanut oil yield is higher than soybean oil at 48 gallons an acre, but lower than rapeseed’s yield of between 127 and 160 gallons an acre. However, because of the high cost of raising peanuts, and the strong demand for traditional uses, it is not the most profitable market to use peanut oil in biodiesel production.

Boiled Peanuts

A small, but highly lucrative market exists for fresh green (not dried) peanuts. These peanuts are used to make a regionally significant snack called boiled peanuts. Boiled peanuts are a popular snack in the South, which is the main growing region for peanuts. But, there are many Southerners who live outside the region, and they want to taste boiled peanuts. Therefore, it is possible to sell fresh peanuts online to add value to a peanut crop that has been intensively managed.

Fresh peanuts are not suitable for long-term storage due to their high moisture content. They can be sold in their local area at farmers’ markets, roadside stands and supermarkets. Fresh peanuts are less often sold online, as they require two-day shipping because of their perishability. Fresh peanuts are often hand-harvested because they have a preference to bright hulls that are free from damage.

Farmers must do extensive and detailed planning before they market their peanut crop “fresh.” The production of fresh market peanuts is almost the same as other peanut crops. There are some differences in harvesting and postharvesting practices, and the varieties and varieties used. Because of their size and taste, customers prefer Virginia and Valencia varieties for fresh peanuts.
